CEBU, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO)-7 has a new regional director, after the post has been left vacant for a year and five months.

Cebuano businessman Victor Caindec, who took his oath of office last Wednesday, replaced LTO-7 Acting Regional Director Alita Pulga.

Caindec is a staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Pulga has assumed in an acting capacity after former LTO-7 regional director Arnel Tancinco relinquished his post.  Tancinco’s tenure was co-terminus with former President Benigno Aquino III.

Pulga has assumed as acting regional director since August 2016. Pulga, who has been working with LTO the past 37 years, applied for the position but failed to get the post.

She will go back as assistant regional director with the appointment of Caindec.

"I will immediately improve frontline services," said Caindec, when asked what was his first order of the day.

Caindec added that he will review the region's performance based on the agency target metrics and apply corrective measures.

Caindec, former head of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management, also said that he will look into the recurring problems that have been besetting the agency such as lack of license plates, delayed releasing of driver's license among others. (FREEMAN)
