CEBU, Philippines — Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas said they will decrease the budget intended for their participation in the Sinulog competition next year.

Budget Officer Edgar Mabunay has proposed a P6.7-million budget for this year's Sinulog and was eventually approved by Gullas.

But several citizens questioned the appropriation, saying that the city spends more money in just one day performance instead of focusing on the development of road infrastructures.

Gullas said he received the queries at his office.

“Those questions have been asked kaanugon that would have been used for other purposes,” he said.

Gullas added that he called the attention of Mabunay about the matter who explained it was because of the number of dancers needed during the presentation.

Earlier, Mabunay explained that the budget includes the meal and transportation allowances of the 100 dancers, 700 props men and 200 dancing props men.

It would be the Talisay City Central School (TCCS) that will represent the city during the presentation.

Last year, the TCCS bagged the first place in Sinulog sa Kabataan – Lalawigan Elementary Division.  They also won in the Sinulog 2014, 2015 and 2017 editions.

The city did not participate in 2016.

Talisay has been one of the most awaited participants during the competition.

The budget appropriated last year is also around P6 million.

“Dako ra gyud (budget) compared to last year pero gamay kaayo ang deperensya,” he stressed.

If the city would take part in Sinulog next year, Gullas said they would definitely lessen the funds to be used.

“Dili sad kaayo gamay na lang, pero sufficient for the purpose,” Gullas added. (FREEMANNEWS)
