Barok’s trustee nabbed in buy-bust

Ermida Q. Moradas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The top name on Danao City's high-value target list and an alleged trustee of self-confessed drug lord, Alvaro ‘Barok’ Alvaro, was nabbed in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Maslog, Danao City yesterday dawn.

According to Danao City police, Ronilo ‘Esboy’ Nuñez, a native of Ozamiz City, has been elusive ever since he was being monitored for his illegal drug activities.

After several months of close monitoring, Danao's Drug Enforcement Unit was able to transact with Nuñez, buying one small pack of suspected shabu which led to his arrest.

Police Officer 2 Phil Restauro of Danao police said that they were able to seize 21 small and three medium packs of suspected shabu from Nuñez with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P194,000.

Also seized from Nuñez was a .45 caliber pistol with live ammunition.

Restauro said that Nuñez, aside from being the big player and source of illegal drugs in Danao, is also the suspect in several murder and robbery incidents in the city. He is reportedly also one of the suspects of a robbery incident in a mall in Carcar City in 2016.

“Kadtong nagsugod ang atong war against drugs, nawagtang ni siya unya karon pa nibalik. Involved ni siya sa tulis, drugs ug patay diri sa Danao. Naa sad ni siya’y criminal gang nga siya’y lider,” said Restauro.

The firearm recovered from Nuñez will be subjected to cross matching examination to find out whether it has been used in other crimes.

Restauro said that with the arrest of Nuñez they expect that the supply of illegal drugs in Danao will go down, adding the police will not let their guard down knowing that there are other drug players in the area.

In a separate buy-bust operation in Barangay Poblacion, an alleged drug pusher identified as Arvin Giangco was caught with six small packs of suspected shabu and is now under the custody of Danao police.

Also arrested were Roy Cacanog and Arnel Densing for being caught in the middle of a drug session.

Meanwhile, a certain Yance Oliverio, an alleged drug pusher in Barangay Looc, eluded arrest right after police successfully bought from him one small pack of suspected shabu.

All the arrested suspects are now detained at the Danao City Police Station pending the filing of charges for violations against Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.  JBB (FREEMANNEWS)
