Seaman nabbed for not supporting child

Ermida Q. Moradas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A seafarer who just recently got off from the ship was arrested through the implementation of an alias warrant of arrest at his residence in Barangay Poblacion, Liloan Saturday morning.

The police identified the suspect as Jay Jugan, 40, who is facing a case for violation of the Anti-Violence against Women and Children Act that was filed by his wife in 2015.  The suspect allegedly failed to support the child he has sired with the complainant.

Mandaue City Regional Trial Court Branch 55 Judge Mory Nueva issued the warrant of arrest against Jugan last April 2016.

Police Officer 3 Renato Pendo of the Liloan Police told The FREEMAN that they received a report from a concerned citizen about Jugan’s presence in their house, which prompted the police to immediately conduct an operation against him.

Pendo added that they had a hard time locating and implementing the alias warrant against Jugan, since he is outside the country most of the time.

Jugan is scheduled to leave the country again this January had he not been arrested by the operatives of the Liloan police.

During the interrogation, the suspect reportedly told the police that he has already settled everything with his wife.

“Mao na iyang version nga na-settle na kuno niya dugay ra.  Pero naa ma’y warrant, so maong ato gi-implementar. Adto nalang na niya sa korte iatubang,” said Pendo.

Jugan is now temporarily detained at the Liloan police station.  He will be presented to the court tomorrow.  (FREEMAN)
