CEBU, Philippines — A 76-year-old American was robbed of P90,000 in his own house by a woman he met through an online dating site and hired as a one-day house helper.

Currently renting a house in Cebu City, the American citizen who refused to be named went to the police and reported the incident.

According to him, he only knew the woman as Jennylyn, 25 years old and a resident of Minglanilla.

The foreigner told The FREEMAN through a phone call that Jennylyn wanted to earn some money so she could process her documents for work abroad. He offered her a job as a helper at his rented house for one whole day.

Initial investigation led by Senior Police Officer 1 Mark Betonia of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) revealed that the American asked Jennylyn to go to his house on December 14 at 8 a.m. to do some cleaning.

After a few hours, the American noticed that Jennylyn was not around. When he checked, he discovered that his P90,000 cash was missing from the cabinet where he kept it.

The CCPO's Theft and Robbery Section is still coordinating with the American and checking up on Jennylyn's profile on the dating site to trace her whereabouts. (FREEMAN)
