244 daycare workers negative of drugs
CEBU, Philippines — At least 244 daycare workers in Cebu City tested negative for the use of illegal drugs during a surprise drug test last Monday.
Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) head Garry Lao said all daycare workers who underwent the test were found to have no signs of illegal drug use.
“Out of the 244 teachers who underwent the drug test wala man nag positive,” he said.
The drug test was done pursuant to the local government’s order for all government officials and workers to submit to a urine drug test.Dr. Danilo Gudelosao, Cebu City Assistant Schools District Superintendent, was happy with the results.
“We’re happy because from the results, the teachers are still the [role] model of the students,” Gudelosao said.
The Department of Education together with the Cebu City government launched a random drug test sampling to all public teachers and personnel a few months ago. The activity, however, was temporarily stopped due to the lack of proper guidelines.
According to Gudelosao, the random drug test sampling to public teachers and workers will continue once the guidelines will be available. (FREEMAN)
