Junjun stays low profile during first session day

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor Renato “Junjun” Osmeña Jr. stayed low profile during his first session day after his appointment as member of the City Council.

Junjun was supposed to deliver a privilege speech yesterday but opted to just to be an observer rather than actively participating in the council deliberations. He admitted he was not yet ready to deliver a speech.

“Great, great, it is an experience to try for the first time, it’s nice, kasi what we are trying to do right now, we are trying to identify the problem and trying to have the solution,” Junjun described his first day attending the session.

Asked what could have been his privilege speech, Osmeña said he wants to keep it as a surprise. Before attending the session, he paid a courtesy call on Mayor Tomas Osmeña fueling suspicions that he will be joining Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan.

But the neophyte councilor said he does not need to transfer to BOPK because he is a friend to everyone regardless of political affiliation. Junjun said he personally conveyed to the mayor that he is interested to chair the committee on peace and order and traffic matters. The mayor, however, did not give an assurance that he will get it.

Junjun earlier said he will remain loyal to his party, Barug Team Rama, because of its support to him.

“I am so much loyal to the party that chose me and I would do anything for this party to grow… I am honored and happy to accept this appointment with all grace and blessings from him,” Junjun said earlier.

He said he is willing to help everyone for the welfare of the city residents. In fact, he doesn’t want to politicize everything which might affect his performance as councilor.

Junjun was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte on November 29 to replace Nendell Hanz Abella, who was appointed commissioner of the National Labor Relations Commission. (FREEMAN)
