CSBT bans transport of firecrackers

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Southbound bus passengers cannot transport firecrackers unless they have a permit from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Starting today, the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) will ban the bringing of firecrackers by bus passengers.

CSBT Security Management Head Joy Tumulak said they will be inspecting packages before these will be loaded in the buses.

He said they received an instruction from the transport security office of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to ban all types of firecrackers in buses.

“Mahulog man gud nga delikado sya ilabi nag naa sulod sa bus. Simbako unyag naay magdalag lighter,” he continued. (Having firecrackers in buses is risky.  Some passengers may be bringing lighters.)

Other prohibited items are chemicals like butane and any type of bladed weapon.

Only passengers with a permit from the BFP can transport the banned items.

Tumulak said confiscated items will be turned over to the proper authorities.

CSBT Manager Joey Herrera urged the public to be aware and follow the rules to lessen inconvenience.

On the other hand, Herrera said  CSBT workers were already briefed on the possible surge of passengers especially during Fridays and the holidays.

There will be 500 to 550 bus departures every days and Herrera warned passengers to expect long queues especially during the Christmas season.

For those who carry heavy luggage, they can borrow the terminal’s pushcarts provided near the gates.

Security in the terminal is heightened with daily inspections conducted by the police and military and their K9 units.

The CSBT manager reiterated that they do not give prior seat reservation or special treatment to some passengers.  (FREEMAN)
