To compete with UBER, Grab; Cebu taxi industry to launch own app

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu's taxi industry will soon have its own internet-based application where taxi passengers can book their trips online, just like Uber and Grab.

Metro Cebu Taxi Operators Association President Richard Cabucos yesterday said that they will launch within the month its taxi app called Micab.

Cabucos said that the Micab app will be connected to its 3,500 members and the number is expected to grow once they will officially launch it.

"We have to compete sa Grab ug Uber kay daghan na kaayo ni sila karon. Mao na nga ang taxi sa Cebu naa na unyay app pud," said Cabucos.

To recall, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have been urging the taxi industry to find ways to compete with Grab and Uber instead of complaining.

"I told them that instead of just complaining about Uber and Grab, they should innovate to stay competitive," LTFRB-7 Head Ahmed Cuizon earlier said. (FREEMAN)
