3 Temporary terminal to address Tabunok traffic

Iris Mariani B. Algabre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Talisay City government is optimistic that the traffic problem in Tabunok will be lessened in the days to come with the establishment of a terminal for tricycles and motorcycles-for-hire or habal-habals.

Mayor Eduardo Gullas said he already signed a memorandum of agreement with the owner of the property who offered his lot to the city for free. Gullas said he is grateful to the property owner who is from Bohol.

Assistant City Legal Officer Atty. Rocky Bas said the property is located along Rafael Rabaya St., few meters away from the Tabunok Public Market. He identified the owner as Marlito Uy.

Uy allowed the city government to use his property as temporary terminal for three to six months while the new public market is yet to be completed.

The second phase of the P98-million Tabunok Public Market includes a terminal for tricycles and habal-habals.

Tabunok has been experiencing traffic problem since the construction of the public market because the tricycles and habal-habals are already using the service road under the flyover as temporary terminal.

Bas said they have already started cleaning the property offered by Uy so it can be used as soon as possible.

Bas said they have already started cooperating with the City of Talisay Traffic Operations Development Authority (CT-TODA) to implement the use of the new terminal.

Gullas announced earlier that he wants to solve the traffic problem in Tabunok immediately because of the numerous complaints he received. He is hopeful that the new terminal will already improve the traffic situation in the area. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
