535 partner-beneficiaries graduated from DPWH skills training

CEBU, Philippines — A total of 535 partner-beneficiaries have graduated from the various skills trainings conducted by the Sustainable Livelihood Program under the Department of Social Welfare and Development as of October 2017.

Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4P’s) partner beneficiaries in Talibon, Bohol, availed of the free skills training funded by DSWD under the Bottom-up Budgeting.

Graduates took up courses like shielded metal arc welding, driving, masonry, refrigeration airconditioning, cookery, hilot (wellness massage), automotive servicing, cellphone repair, haircutting services, and pedicure and manicure services.

DSWD is collaborating with Technical and Education Skills Development Authority for this program as the latter provides training and workshops to the partner-beneficiaries.

Talibon Mayor Restituto Auxtero said he was grateful for the training program as it will provide employment to the graduates. He said graduates of this program have already been employed or started their own businesses.

Meanwhile, to recognize the Family Development Sessions, the Local Government of San Fernando town has localized its implementation through the coordination of various departments.

FDS is one of the conditions of the 4P’s as they gathered partner-beneficiaries under the program to discuss about health nutrition, education, and family protection, including the basic needs of children.

DSWD-7 provincial link officer for 4P’s Brigieda Goron said that through localization, San Fernando can now directly provide services to their partner-beneficiaries.

“We really appreciate the effort of the department heads because despite their busy schedule they find time to go to the different barangays just to handle FDS topics,” Goron said.

Goron said that they are pushing for the strengthening of the implementation of FDS by coming up with local policy. (FREEMAN)
