CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing commended the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) following the arrest of an alleged serial rapist in a checkpoint in Barangay Canduman last Thursday.

He congratulated Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, MCPO director, and the rest of the city's police force.

"It is a huge step in helping to keep Mandaue City safe. They should be and will be commended," Quisumbing said.

Quisumbing also warned criminals who prey on innocent lives that they will be hunted down.

"Prosperity, inclusion and equality but the first step to any plan is safety. For those that prey on the innocent, rest assured, we will find you," he said.

Suspect Reil Yamit Ceniza, a resident of Zone 4, Barangay Mantuyong, was caught at 1:45 a.m. last Thursday by operatives of MCPO - Station 6 after he evaded a checkpoint in the area.

Ceniza was already being monitored because of several reports in the police blotter filed by women whom he allegedly molested.

At least eight victims showed up at the police station and identified Ceniza as the one who violated them.

Ceniza is detained in the holding cell of MCPO-Station 6 for alleged possession of drugs and firearms after police seized a medium-sized plastic pack believed to contain shabu and a .9mm pistol from him.

Ceniza will be facing complaints for violating the Land Transportation and Traffic Code as he allegedly evaded a checkpoint, illegal possession of firearms and possession of illegal drugs.

The police are still gathering more evidence before they can file rape complaints against him.  —/MBG (FREEMAN)
