Missing women found washed up in Albuera

CEBU, Philippines — The bodies of the two women who were last seen along the seashore of Sitio Saac, Barangay Buaya in Lapu-Lapu City last October 8, had been found in the waters off Barangay Tinag-an, Albuera, Leyte yesterday dawn.

Police Officer 2 Gino Giaman, Desk Officer of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office - Station 5, said the bodies of Helen Gingco, 25, Genyrose Turmon, 30, were found around 5:30 a.m. by the Albuera police.

The day they went missing, Gingco and Turmon had been picking shells along the seashore were carried off by the strong current following heavy rains.

Gingco is a resident of Barangay Pajo in Lapu-Lapu City and a native of Carmen, Cebu, while Turmon is a resident of Sitio Saac, Barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City and hails from Iloilo City.

Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officrer Andy Berame said he received a text from Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) -7 informing him about the washed up bodies.

According to OCD-8, Albuera Police Station received a phone call from a resident that a scavenger in the town's Sitio Kabatuan found two female bodies along the shore in a state of decomposition.

One of the bodies found was wearing black cycling shorts and a bra.

The other one was wearing a black shirt and brown shorts.

Berame turned over the information to Lapu-Lapu City police.

Turmon's boyfriend, Eliseo Abing, 32, was the one who identified her as the one wearing black cycling shorts and a bra.

Abing regretted the day that he allowed her to go to the sea despite the bad weather.

Giaman said that the body of Gingco was positively identified by her family.

The families of Gingco and Turmon are headed to Albuera to claim their bodies.

"Padung na sila sa Leyte para kuhaon ang patay'ng lawas," Giaman said. (FREEMAN)
