P30T cash aid for family of beheaded woman

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III yesterday confirmed the Capitol will give the bereaved family of Lovely Jane Quiño of Consolacion town P30,000 as cash assistance.

He said he already spoke with Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) Head Marivic Garces on how the province could help Lovely Jane’s family, especially her four children, and they agreed to give P20,000 as financial assistance and P10,000 as burial assistance.

The burial assistance will be sourced from the Capitol’s Assistance in Crisis Situation fund.

Since release of the assistance is still being processed, the provincial government initially gave a box of coffee, noodles and canned goods. According to the Provincial Information Office, Lovely Jane’s mother received the items.

Lovely Jane, 25, was beheaded by her live-in partner Dominic Pahugot, 27, in her house in Tayud, Consolacion town last Sunday. Pahugot, who was allegedly under the influence of illegal drugs, was gunned down by responding policemen. Both deaths were witnessed by the couple’s three-year-old daughter.

In a separate interview, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale said the Capitol will help Lovely Jane’s four children, ages five, three, two, and a four-month-old infant.

The vice governor said the government has the obligation to help the children until they are old enough to be on their own.

Lovely Jane’s family placed the blame over her gruesome death on Angelica, the suspect’s mother.

Maria Fe Quiño, Lovely Jane’s aunt, said that if Angelica did not convince her niece to go back to Tayud, the tragic incident would not have happened.

Lorenzo Quiño, Lovely Jane’s grandfather, also said in a separate interview that Angelica assured that her son was already in jail so the victim and her children were safe to return in their house.

Lorenzo said he had his doubts about what Angelica said and suspected Lovely Jane was just tricked into agreeing, but said he gave in to his granddaughter’s decision, something that he now regrets.

Superintendent Mina Domingo, Consolacion Police Station chief, had said that they were coordinating with the Municipal Social Welfare Development office of Consolacion to have the children undergo stress debriefing, particularly the three-year-old girl who witnessed the incident. (FREEMAN)
