Camomot death anniversary tomorrow

May B. Miasco - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu archdiocese has invited the Catholic faithful to participate in the activities for the 29th death anniversary of the late Archbishop Teofilo Camomot, who is a candidate for sainthood.

The closing of the religious event dubbed "Saulog 2017" is set tomorrow, September 27, or the date the Cebuano prelate died, in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City, Cebu.

The 11-day religious event kicked off on September 17 with an afternoon foot procession dubbed "Walk With Mary."

The opening salvo was followed by a nine-day novena, wherein Masses were celebrated by different priests leading to the big day on Camomot's death anniversary tomorrow.

Mother Ma. Louella Grace Buscato, superior general of the Daughters of Saint Teresa, said one of the highlights of the Saulog 2017 is the unveiling of the life-size statue of Camomot inside the newly-built museum at the DST compound.

The museum was opened to the public last March 3 in time for Camomot's birth anniversary.

Buscato said The FREEMAN chairman Jose "Dodong" Gullas and his wife Nena, who are strong advocates for his sainthood, are expected to grace the event.

"I'm encouraging all the faithful to join us in the celebration of the 29th death anniversary of our founder, the Servant of God, Archbishop Teofilo Camomot," Buscato said.

She said two Masses are scheduled tomorrow to be celebrated by Cebu's prelates at the DST chapel in Valladolid.

The first Mass is at 10 a.m. to be celebrated by Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Villarojo while the 3 p.m. Pontifical Mass will be led by Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Jaime Florencio.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, who usually leads the Pontifical or High Mass, is still out of the country.

Buscato said there will also be a blessing of relics at the museum at 2:30 p.m.

After the 3 p.m. Mass, a groundbreaking ceremony will be done for the new dormitory and formation center of the DST sisters.  (FREEMAN)
