PNP's elite unit needs 4T recruits

Mae Clydyl L. Avila - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Special Action Forces (SAF), hailed as the elite team of the Philippine National Police, is recruiting more than 4,000 individuals until end of this month.

Senior Inspector San Roget King Ho, Team Leader of the Mobile Recruitment Team in Central Visayas, announced that able-bodied men are highly encouraged to apply.

Ho explained that the recruitment was based on the orders of the Office of the President last July for the PNP to fill up the blank posts for the specialized unit.

Ho said that applying for the SAF is the best platform to practice patriotism and serve the country selflessly, especially this time in which several units are deployed in the besieged City of Marawi.

“We are giving you the opportunity to serve the country through patriotic deeds,” Ho said.

He said that being a member of an elite force means SAF personnel are a notch higher compared to the other policemen.

SAF members are more trained on counter-insurgency, precision operation, and responding to bomb threats, as their learning integrates with specialized explosive ordnance units and K9 units.

“Ang SAF originally was created as an intervention unit. Ang SAF is a unit that does… operation…(against)  high-value na mga targets, mataas ang mga threat ng isang operation. Diyan nag-o-operate ang SAF,” Ho said.

Aside from that SAF personnel are also tasked in escorting dignitaries visiting the country.

Applicants should be a Filipino citizen, person of good moral character, physically and mentally fit. He must pass the PNP entrance exam administered by the National Police Commission; is a career service professional; a passer of the bar or is a licensed criminologist; has civil service eligibility, which is also given to college students who graduate with honors.

He must not have been dishonorably discharged from military employment or was dismissed for a cause from civilian position in the government; must not have been convicted by final judgement of an offense or crime of moral turpitude; must be at least 5’4 in height for male and 5’2 for female; must weight not more or less than five kilograms from the standard weight corresponding to his age and sex; and must neither be less than 21 nor more than 30 years old.

“And ipapadala na lang po sila sa Camp Bagong Diwa for oathtaking, basically dito na po lahat ng processing,” Ho said.

All interested applicants are welcome to visit Camp Sergio Osmeña. All documents and related procedures will also be done Cebu before those who pass are sent to Camp Bagong Diwa in Manila.
