Slain DJ not raped

Ermida Q. Moradas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Disc jockey Marie Alexi Bolongaita was not raped.

This according to Police Supt. Ryan Devaras, chief of the Investigation, Detection and Management Branch (IDMB) of the Cebu City Police Office, following the autopsy of Bolongaita’s body.

The 29-year-old former Miss Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) was shot dead in her apartment in Sitio Nivel Hills, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City last Thursday dawn.

Prior to the autopsy, the suspect himself, Reynante Mambiar, told the police he did not rape the victim and his only reason for breaking into her place was to steal her belongings. He did admit killing her.

The police have recovered Bolongaita’s bag, which contained her mobile phone and tablet, at Mambiar’s house in Salinas Drive.

They also recovered a bag that contained tools that Mambiar allegedly uses to rob homes.

“Upon the interview sad nato sa suspect, robbery ra gyud ang iyang motive. Yes, ni-admit siya. Wa siya’y laing tuyo, but kawat, and since nakabantay ang victim, mao na ‘to, naay struggle nahitabo,” Devaras said.

Bolongaita, the only daughter of veteran broadcaster Alex Bolongaita, died from two gunshot wounds in the right side of her chest.

Devaras said Bolongaita might have fought back because Mambiar himself sustained a stab wound in his shoulder and a gunshot wound in his hand. An empty shell recovered from the crime scene come from a .22 caliber pistol believed to have been owned by the victim.

This firearm is different from the .38 caliber pistol Mambiar said he used to shoot Bolongaita.

Police are now looking for the gun that Mambiar said he threw near Bolongaita’s house.

Devaras said Mambiar’s fingerprints were found at the victim’s house. Bolongaita’s neighbor identified Mambiar as the man who came out of Bolongaita’s apartment after the incident.

Mambiar allegedly entered the apartment through the window.

Devaras said Mambiar figured in several robbery cases in Barangay Lahug, specifically in the Busay area and police are calling on former victims to come forward.

Mambiar was arrested in August for possession of illegal drugs but he was able to post bail and leave jail.

He also has a case pending in Mandaue City for violating traffic laws.

A case for robbery resulting in homicide will be filed against Mambiar on Monday. (FREEMAN)
