73 villages told to enforce ordinances

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor David Tumulak has urged the city’s 73 barangays to implement the curfew ordinance and other ordinances of the city.

Tumulak made the call after seven barangays implemented the curfew ordinance last night with the help of personnel from San Nicolas Police Station (Station 6) headed by Police Chief Inspector Keith Allen Andaya.

These barangays are Pasil, Suba, Sawang Calero, Duljo Fatima, San Nicolas, San Nicolas Proper, and Calamba.

“So, naghinaot ta nga ubang barangay mobuhat sab sa gibuhat sa laing barangay nga mag implementar sa local ordinances sa syudad sa sugbo,” Tumulak said.

Tumulak, also the deputy mayor for police matters, believed that the implementation of local ordinances with the help of police and barangays would deter crimes, especially during night time.

He said the Police Station 6 has initiated the rounding up of minors.

He said the Association of Barangay Councils-Cebu City Chapter should assist all the 80 barangays in the implementation of the curfew ordinance and other ordinances.

“Ilang gi-apil ang pag regulate sa mga internet cafe kaning piso net kay mga bata sige’g duwa hangtod sa kadlawn, apil pod ang sari-sari stores i-regulate sa barangay kay ang mga drug addicts, mga badlungon usually mamalit lawm sa gabii o kadlawn,” he said.

Tumulak said barangay officials will be roaming around their areas of jurisdiction with the presence of police personnel for the enforcement of the ordinances.

He said they will also be asking the small stores, particularly the sari-sari store, to close their establishments at 10 in the evening.

“Hangyoon sa mga barangay captains nga isira nalang nila ilang tindahan para makalikay aning mga gang ug pagpalit aning mga ilimnong makahubog para maminus ang kasamok sa ilang barangay,” he said.

Tumulak said the city government is grateful for the initiatives of the police station and the barangays to instill discipline among their residents.

He is just hoping that the barangays are not doing it because of the forthcoming barangay elections.

“Ang mahitabo nga resulta ana, minus ang mga krimen sa maong mga barangay. Ma displina atong katawhan, malinawn ang mga barangay kon mapatuman ang mga barangay ordinances. Panghinaot lang nato nga padayonon ug paabton sa barangay election,” he said. (FREEMAN)
