CEBU, Philippines - At least 30 social pension beneficiaries from Talisay City have been removed from the list of the Office of Senior Citizens Affair.

OSCA Head Elena Alcoseba said they have received complaints that these pensioners do not deserve to be included on the list. Alcoseba said her office together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development conducted a validation on the information and found out to be true.

"If certified nga dili sila indigent unya nay gabuhi nila nga anak ug sickly, mataktak sila unya mahatag ang slot sa lain," she said.

A social pension beneficiary gets a monthly assistance of P500 from the national government. The assistance is distributed every three months.

"Kung asa to nga barangay natangtang, didto sad kuhaon ang mopuli niya," Alcoseba explained.

Talisay City DSWD Focal Person Zenaida Cervantes said they strictly observed due process in removing the beneficiaries from the list.

"If in case naay mo-report namo nga naay arang-arangan naapil, i-revalidate namo before mi motangtang, dili automatically. Mag-home visit og unsa ka tinuod which is manug-an man sad gyud," she said.

She explained that a social pensioner must be certified indigent. At present, there are 2013 social pensioners in the city. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
