11 drug suspects nabbed in separate operations

CEBU, Philippines - Eleven suspected drug personalities were arrested Monday afternoon in separate police operations in the cities of Talisay and Carcar.

Operatives of Talisay City Police Office responded to a call from Sitio Cassare, Barangay Cansojong at 2:45 p.m. about the presence of an armed person when they caught Rolando Guibao, 47, resident of Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla, Cebu and Harold Jude Neri, 49, resident of Cansojong, Talisay City,for possession of illegal drugs.

Police Officer 3 Junyl Ater said the suspects are new drug players in the city.

Ater said the suspects were acting suspiciously, prompting the police to confront them. However, they allegedly refused to be frisked. The police found two packs of shabu in their pockets and drug paraphernalia.

In another operation, the police arrested Benedicto Balorio, 62; Kurt Balorio, 18; Briant Cabalquinto, 33; Ryan Jake Baler, 31; Giovanni Lopez, 35; Michael Resujento, 34; and Marlon Monteclaro, 33, in SitioTambis, Barangay Pooc.

The police were following information about a group of people allegedly having drug session in the area. The suspects were caught in the act of sniffing illegal drugs.

Seized from them were drug paraphernalia, 14 small packs of shabu and one medium pack weighing 6.52 grams.

In Carcar City, police arrested suspected drug pusher Adonis Zafra, 32, resident of Sitio Tangasan, Barangay Valladolid, during a buy-bust operation.

Recovered from his possession were six packs of shabu worth P2,124 and the P200 marked money. Two hours later, another operation was conducted in Sitio Nangkaan Barangay Perrelos resulting in the arrest of Guiller Baylosis, 37, resident of the place.

The police recovered from Baylosis were seven small packs of suspected shabu worth P2,478.

Meanwhile, a suspected drug user was shot dead in Minglanilla late Monday evening.

The victim was identified as Jerome Cañedo, 38, resident of Sitio Lipata, Barangay Linao. Two unidentified gunmen came to the motorcycle shop where the victim worked as mechanic and shot him in the head. The shooting was caught in CCTV camera of the shop.

Minglanilla Police Station chief Dexter Calacar said the victim was a known drug user in the area and had been under surveillance by them because of reports that he was already selling drugs.

Jennifer Cañedo admitted her husband occasionally used drugs but was never into selling illegal drugs. (FREEMAN)
