House recognizes CTU extension in Brgy Babag

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The House of Representatives has recognized the Cebu Technological University (CTU) Cebu City Mountain Extension Campus as among the satellite campuses of the state university.

The House on August 14, 2017 approved House Bill No. 6030 sponsored by Cebu City South District Representative Rodrigo Abellanosa. The bill was already transmitted to the Senate.

On January 25, Abellanosa originally filed House Bill No. 4844 seeking to amend the Republic Act 9744 or the CTU Charter.

The House Committee on Technical and Higher Education, and the House Committee on Appropriations approved the bill on March 13 and May 3, respectively.

The extension campus is strategically located in Barangay Babag in the mountain areas of Cebu City.

“Its operations allow poor and qualified residents of the mountain barangays to achieve quality tertiary education without having to travel far and allocate their very scarce resources to huge daily transportation expenses,” Abellanosa explained.

He said efforts have enabled the construction of some of the infrastructure and provided funding required for the campus’s initial operations.

“Including the Cebu City Mountain Extension Campus though, to be officially recognized as a CTU satellite campus, will allow the accommodations of many more deserving students and will ensure its continued operations,” added Abellanosa. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
