Sta. Rosa hosts PPS age group netfest

MANILA, Philippines - The Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala holds its first age-group tennis tournament in Sta. Rosa, Laguna with another huge field clashing for top honors in various divisions at the Sta. Rosa Sports Tennis Club.

The Group 2 tournament presented by Slazenger actually got underway Friday with close to 200 entries disputing the crowns in boys and girls 12-, 14-, 16- and 18-and-under divisions along with the 10-unisex diadem.

“It has been our commitment to expand the base of our talent search and by tapping new venues, we are giving these young, aspiring players the chance to test their mettle and gain exposure in ranking tournaments,” said Palawan Pawnshop president/CEO Bobby Castro.

The PPS-PEPP has linked up with Rep. Arlene Arcillas, Mayor Dan Fernandez, Councilor Ina Cartagena, GSO head Celso Catindig, Sports Department head Roy Lazaga, SRTC president Romy Adato, SRTC VP Butch Padilla, Libjo Mining Corp., Mar Capacio, Ed Nacnac and Mely Purificacion to stage the four-day tournament through local organizer SRTC tournament committee members Paul Tardeo, Mel Dizon, Ernie Carandang, Abet Rivera and Franco Dilao.

Focus will be on the 10-unisex side with Kean Enriquez and Alexi Jarata bannering the 32-player draw that also includes siblings Frank and France Dilao, Tim Tayer and Freya Pre.

Denise Bernardo gains the top seeding in both the girls’ 16- and 18-U classes.
