Talisay City Council asks utility companies to fix dangling wires

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City Council has passed a resolution directing all utility companies to fix their dangling wires to prevent accidents.

The resolution authored by Councilor Antonio Bacaltos Jr. was prompted by the accident last week that killed a 20-year-old motorcycle rider after he got himself entangled by a dangling wire at Uldog Street in Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City.

The City Council is also inviting officials of the electric, cable and telephone companies in their regular session next week. All the barangay captains are also invited to attend the session.

"Gustong meetingon ang mga companies concerned para dili mausab ang nahitabo sa nabitik sa wire," Bacaltos said.

Aside from the dangling wires, the city officials also want to address other concerns with the utility firms.

Association of Barangay Councils President Raul Cabañero suggested that the drivers of prime movers should be invited also. Cabañero said these drivers are usually transporting container vans and affected by the sagging wires.

"Mga driver mopadagan walay trackboy nga uban motabang og bantay sa wire, ang mga dili concern nga driver angay disiplinahon," he said.

City engineer Gamaliel Vicente Jr. said he will send a request to the Visayas Electric Company (VECO) to put up a secondary post and streetlights along Uldog St. in Barangay Poblacion.

"Primary post ray naa didto, high power voltage, maong mag-request ta sa VECO nga mabutangan og secondary post," he said. (FREEMAN)
