CEBU, Philippines - The southbound lane of the Mananga Bridge along South Coastal Road will be closed starting at 10 p.m. today until early morning Monday due to a rehabilitation work on its expansion joints.

City of Talisay Traffic Operations Development Authority head Almond Dela Peña said that only the lane going southern Cebu will be closed, while the other lane will be used for two-way traffic.

Mananga Bridge connects Barangays San Isidro and Lawaan 2 in Talisay City.

Public utility jeepneys and buses will follow the normal traffic route going to Natalio Bacalso Avenue, while private vehicles heading south will use the lane going to Cebu City.

Dela Peña added that eight traffic enforcers will be deployed in the area to facilitate traffic during the closure period.

Department of Public Works and Highways head Engineer Anthony Leslie Molina said they only need to replace two expansion joints which are about 10.5 meters distant from each other.

PLD Construction was awarded the contract for this project worth P5 million.

Molina recalled that the new expansion joints were ordered from Korea together with the materials used for the rehabilitation of the flyover in Barangay Tabunok.

Molina added that rehabilitation on the other lane will probably be done next year as they are still requesting for funding. (FREEMAN)
