LTO-Mandaue bars building inspectors

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Inspectors from the Office of the Building Officials of Mandaue City were barred entry to the Land Transportation Office building in Barangay Looc.

The team of inspectors led by structural engineer Roberto Alforque was supposed to check on the structural integrity of the LTO building upon the request of stakeholders.

The stakeholders who oppose to the impending transfer of the LTO requested for the inspection to validate the report made by regional director Alita Pulga that the building is already dilapidated and that they need to transfer.

Pulga earlier reported to the central office that the LTO Mandaue City District Office and Licensing Center is already dilapidated and prone to floods.

Pulga said they have transferred some documents to the Motor Vehicle Inspection Center in Barangay Subangdaku to ensure safety and also in preparation for its eventual transfer.

The move is opposed by Dr. Danilo Dionson, an accredited service provider to LTO.

Dionson asked OBO for certification to know if Mandaue LTO building is on the list of dilapidated buildings in the city.

In a letter dated June 8, OBO told Dionson that the LTO building is not among the dilapidated structures in the city.

“However, the undersigned tried to inspect their renovated building, unfortunately, access to enter their premises were denied,” said Alforque.

The report has irked Dionson, who said the LTO is not an exception being in a city lot because safety is the primary consideration. (FREEMAN)
