SWU Phinma graduate tops dentistry board

CEBU, Philippines - A graduate of the Southwestern University (SWU) Phinma landed in the top 10 of the recent licensure examination for dentists.

With a rating of 83.03 percent, Gino Arvin Baguio Santos was the lone topnotcher from Cebu among the 15 examinees who passed the examination. He ranked sixth place.

Hours after Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) revealed the results, Santos took to Facebook his excitement after learning he placed sixth.

“Is this real life?” he said in a brief post, which earned congratulatory remarks from his family, friends and colleagues.

Santos, in an interview with The FREEMAN over Facebook, said topping the exam was really beyond expectation.

“I was hoping, yes, but I didn’t expect to lessen the possible disappointments,” he said.

He said he could not top the exam without God’s guidance.

“This success isn’t really about me, but it’s all about God, my faith in God. For me, it’s God who put me in this place,” said Santos.

Doctor Maria Paciencia Belarmino, chief clinic and assistant dean of the College of Dentistry, felt elated that one of their graduates made it to the top.

“We are so happy and glad,” she said.

She said it was expected of Santos to top the exam because of his outstanding performance at school.

SWU Phinma had 16 examinees but only seven of them passed, including Santos.

Centro Escolar University-Manila graduate Alexa Eline Trinidad Tajud topped the exam with a score of 86.04, followed by Angela Vida Trinidad Kalaw of the University of the Philippines-Manila with 85. 97, and Francisco Beleno Beria Jr, also from CEU-Manila, with 84.34.

Other topnotchers were Sandi Diaz Santiago (CEU-Manila, 84.20), Noni Fulo Gallenito (CEU-Manila, 83.17), Maria Jasmin Vilar Evangelista (CEU-Manila, 83), Danielle Quintela Ibasco (UP-Manila, 82.8), Eliza Maebellyn Pangilinan Morasa (University of the East-Manila, 82.74), and Nimfa Tolentino Laxamana (Adventist University of the Philippines, 82.7).

The PRC said 397 out of 857 passed the licensure’s written exam and 394 out of 402 passed the practical phase given by the commission’s Board of Dentistry in Manila. (FREEMAN)
