20 employees face probe

CEBU, Philippines - Around twenty construction workers will undergo investigation after they were absent a day before the accountant of their construction firm was robbed and killed near their construction site at the South Road Properties last Saturday.

Mambaling Police Station chief Senior Inspector Eduard Sanchez, said police are eyeing the possibility of an inside job in the robbery and death of Jennely Aquino, an accountant of VISCON Construction.

Sanchez said personnel from the Theft and Robbery Section and Homicide Section have been assigned to the case and are now coordinating with the security managers of a nearby establishment to check if their security cameras were able to record the incident or the perpetrators.

He said indications of an inside job are strong since the four unidentified perpetrators knew the schedule of the victim who was returning to the construction site after withdrawing from a nearby bank. The money was intended for the payroll of the firm’s employees.

The cellphone of company driver Felboy Arcenio, who with the victim at the time of the incident, will also be turned over for forensic examination.

Arcenio drove Aquino to the construction site and she had just left the company vehicle when two men on a motorcycle tried to grab the backpack containing P760,000 cash.

The victim refused to let go of the bag and one of the men shot her three times, one shot hit her in the head and killed her instantly.

As of yesterday evening the body of the victim was still being transported to Bulacan after her mother flew in to Cebu to retrieve her. —/BRP (FREEMAN)
