Cebu’s water supply now back to normal

CEBU, Philippines - The water supply of Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) is now back to normal, two days after thousands of its customers suffered low pressure to no water.

MCWD Spokesperson Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara said that the water supplies from their bulk water suppliers – Cebu Manila Water District in Carmen, Cebu and the Abejo Wells in Talamban and Consolacion – were stopped since May 25.

"Rest assured, all three interruptions already ended.  However, due to the extent of the areas affected, recovery of the supply will still vary, depending on the elevation of the customers' residence/establishment, distance from the sources and the demand in their areas during daytime," said Kara.

Earlier, the Abejo wells in Pit-os failed to supply water due to an electro-mechanical problem last May 25 starting at 5 p.m.

The following day, Abejo Wells’ Cansaga, Consolacion facility also failed to supply water due to the electro-mechanical problem it encountered last May 26 starting at 8 a.m.

The areas affected last May 25 were Pit-os, Bacayan, Tigbao, Kauswagan Rd., San Jose Village, part of Talamban Proper, Cebu City.

On the next day, the areas of Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, MJ Cuenco Ave.,Mabolo (lower portion), the pier area, the North Reclamation Area, Carreta, Lorega-San Miguel, T. Padilla, Tejero, and parts of Imus, Cebu City were affected.

MCWD’s bulk water supply from Luyang River in Carmen, Cebu also failed to supply due to turbidity caused by the heavy rains last May 25 starting at 3 p.m.

Affected areas were Estaca, Compostela; Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu City; Mabolo (lower portion), Reclamation area, Pier area, Carreta, M.J. Cuenco Ave., Lorega-San Miguel, T. Padilla, Tejero, part of Imus Road, Cebu City. —/GAN (FREEMAN)
