Speeding bike kills old woman in Balamban
CEBU, Philippines - An 80-year-old woman died after she was hit by a motorcycle while crossing Binghay Street, Barangay Aliwanay in Balamban, Cebu Saturday evening.
Nestora Maluya, who suffered injuries to the legs and arms, was rushed to the Balamban District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
Senior Inspector Ramil Morpos, Balamban police chief, identified the suspect as Lorenzo Oria, 33, of Barangay Mangoto, Pinamungajan, Cebu.
Initial investigation showed that Oria, who was driving a Rusi motorcycle (8474-GX), was at top speed from Pinamungajan to Balamban. He failed to avoid Maluya, who was crossing the highway around 6:30 p.m.
Due to the impact, Oria crashed and also suffered injuries. He, too, was brought to Balamban District Hospital and survived.
Oria, who was driving without a license, is currently detained and will be facing a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. —/ RHM (FREEMAN)
