Mandaue endorses buses to operate in CBP, IT Park

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City Council has passed a resolution favorably endorsing the request of Cebu Holdings, Inc. (CHI), the Cebu Property Ventures and Development Corporation (CPVDC) and Vallacar Transit, Inc. to increase the number of buses plying the Danao City-Cebu City-Carcar City via Ayala and vice versa.

Councilor Elstone Dabon, chairman of the council committee on transportation, said he earlier received a letter asking for an endorsement about the increase in the number of buses through a letter from CHI Attorney-in-fact Romulo Alajid.

CHI, the CPVDC, and owners and developers of Cebu Business Park (CBP) and Cebu IT Park, respectively, entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with Vallacar Transit, Inc.

Vallacar operates the Ceres bus liner.

Under the agreement, the Ceres buses will provide public transportation to the locators of CBP and IT Park in the form of public utility buses with the approved route in accordance with its certificate of public convenience and special permits.

Alajid, in his letter to Mayor Gabriel Luigi Quisumbing, said there are only three bus units under Ceres' current franchise that are operating.

They believe these three buses are definitely not enough to cater to the volume of passengers.

Based on the population of the CBP, there are about 75,672 employees in the area, and about 14 percent of the number are from Man-daue City.

"It is in this regard that we are writing to you to ask for your favorable endorsement of Ceres' request to increase number of bus units from three to 75," Alajid said in his letter to Quisumbing.

Dabon, in a resolution he filed with the council, gave his favorable endorsement citing that it will serve the riding public from the CBP and the Cebu IT Park, including the Mandauehanons.

"There is a need to encourage the use of Public Utility Buses as preferred mode of transportation and increasing the same to better serve the increasing volume of passengers from the CBP and IT Park," Dabon said. (FREEMAN)
