Some women using PWC for extortion?
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Women’s Commission has warned women not to use the commission as leverage to extort money from their partners.
Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, co-chairman of PWC, issued the warning after receiving information that some “enterprising women” threatened to report their abusive partners if they will not give them money.
“It has come to our attention nga there are some enterprising women nga gigamit ang PWC, nga moingon nga hala mosumbong mi sa PWC unya ang uban pud nga mga laki, nahadlok, mohatag og kwarta,”Magpale said.
Magpale cited a case in northern Cebu in which the woman would always provoke her partner and threatens to report to PWC when she gets hurt.
“Gi-settle for P1,500 and another instant sab kuno, ambot kon tinuod ba kato nga nasagpaan siya kay iya man gi-provoke, she was able to collect,” Magpale said.
Magpale, however, said that all women given help by PWC are really victims of violence. She said they conduct validation before giving assistance.
Magpale explained that this is the reason why the National Bureau of Investigation and Cebu Provincial Police Office are part of the PWC because they conduct validation.
“Dili mi magpagamit, let this be a warning to those women who intend to use us, dili tawon mi ing-ana, dili tawon mi magpagamit… We’d like to assure the men kay tingale motoo sila, dili dali dali nga motoo mi,” Magpale assured. (FREEMAN)
