LTFRB asked: Require taxi to post passengers’ rights

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City Council has passed a resolution urging the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to require all taxi operators to post a list of passengers' rights inside their units.

The resolution was authored by Vice Mayor Carlo Pontico Fortuna and Councilors Carmelino Del Mar and Elstone Dabon. The resolution was aimed to protect the passengers from abusive taxi drivers, especially during the holiday season. It was approved yesterday afternoon.

Fortuna said there have been reports in the past that taxi drivers refused to transport passengers while others demanded for additional charge.

"The government should demand the highest standards of honesty from the taxi drivers and ensure the protection of the riding public," the resolution reads.

According to Fortuna, there is an existing bill of rights of taxi passengers but only very few are aware of it.

"It is imperative that the government should make known these rights to the riding public by posting them in the taxis, both regular and airport taxi," Fortuna said. (FREEMAN)
