CEBU, Philippines - A reward will be given to the contractor of the new Tabunok Public Market project if it can finish the construction two months ahead of the time completion.

This was disclosed by Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas yesterday during his visit at the construction site.

"Og mahuman earlier, duna sila'y premyo. Pero if dili mahuman earlier, sila mao'y mopremyo nako," Gullas said.

The contractor of the project is Tuanson Construction, which is owned by Engineer Rick Tuanson.

Tuanson said that the target completion of the market's phase one is on June 8 next year.

But since Gullas is looking forward for the project to be completed as early as possible, Tuanson vowed that the team will try its best and complete the project by April 8.

He said it would be a challenge for their part to accomplish what the mayor wants.

The first phase of the new market includes two two-story buildings worth P52 million. One of the buildings is intended for the administration and will also serve as commercial building and the second intended for dry goods.

They might have vowed to complete the construction ahead of the target date, but Tuanson assured that the project would not be compromised and that the quality and standard of the construction would still be appropriate.

"Maningkamot mi mahuman April 8, substantially completed na nang mga panahona. Naa man mi gisunod nga schedule unya aprubado pud sa City Engineering Office," he said.

"Basi sa schedule ug momentum sa trabaho, makuha nato," he added.

For his part, city engineer Gamaliel Vicente also assured that the building would still be durable despite the team having to follow the earlier target date of completion.

"Naay frequency of material testing, naa man ta'y testing source, dili ma-compromise ang standard kay we have the required frequency of testing. Gitestingan ang semento, gitestingan ang kabilya," he said.

Earlier, it was reported that Gullas was not happy after observing the slow progress of the demolition of the old buildings.

Tuanson, however, clarified that they are following the project schedule and that their project is not delayed.

He added that the reason why they started quite late on the demolition was because after the groundbreaking last September 8, they first attended to the affected vendors.

They constructed makeshift shanties for the vendors' temporary stalls while the market is still under construction.

The bidding of the second phase of the market construction, which is worth P98 million, would probably happen this month or early next year.

Gullas said that the Tuanson Construction is still welcome to participate, which was also confirmed by Tuanson himself. (FREEMAN)
