Talisay to implement Oplan Iwas Putok

Iris Mariani B. Algabre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - In line with the preparations for a peaceful Christmas celebration in Talisay City, Chief Fire Marshall Senior Inspector Randy Mendaros presented the Talisay Fire Station’s campaign called ‘Oplan Iwas Paputok Incident Action Plan.’

Their goal is to prevent possible fire incidents, particularly those that might be caused by firecrackers.

Mendaros said that they will disseminate information regarding the dangers of firecrackers by conducting seminars in barangays, distributing leaflets and putting up tarpaulin signages.

The fire station also intends to ensure that all establishments and merchandisers selling firecrackers are following safety regulations.

At present, Mendaros disclosed, there has not been any merchandiser who has applied for permit to sell firecrackers in Talisay City.

He said merchandisers may be having difficulties in securing all the necessary requirements to get the permit.

There are two malls in Talisay that have been permitted to sell pyrotechnics.

“Okay ra ang pyrotechnics, dili man na firecrackers pero naa lang gihapon sila’y guidelines, mga do’s and don’ts, unya limitations sa ipang-display,” he said.

Mendaros said that once merchandisers will apply for permit, he will recommend the space located in front of Talisay City Hall to be the area of trade so that it would be easy for fire marshals to monitor the activities.

“Tan-awon ang designated area asa i-display, ug designated nga magpaboto kay dili malikayan labi na bata makapalit, magpataka lang. Pero private property man na, atong hangyuon atong mga konsehal nga sila ang mohangyo sa tag-iya. Maayo na kay duol ra sa atong fire station,” he added.

In the past years, available space in Barangay Lagtang was used as the city’s firecracker zone.

Authorities will confiscate goods of merchandisers found to be selling firecrackers that are considered illegal. (FREEMAN)
