Husband, lover arrested

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A married man and his live-in partner landed in jail in Lapu-Lapu City after his wife had them arrested midnight last Monday.

They were arrested at the house of the man’s mother just a short distance away from the house he used to stay in with his legal wife in Purok Beauty in the Sky, Barangay Babag.

The FREEMAN is withholding the names of the people involved owing to the sensitive nature of the case.

"Gidakop ni sila sa barangay tanod... ang kining iyahang bana ug laing babaye kay didto ra pud nagpuyo sa iyahang ugangan, bali mama sa lalaki," said PO2 Maria Filipina Branzuela of the Lapu-Lapu Police’s Women and Children Protection Desk.

Based on investigation, the affair began in 2010, the same year the wife flew to Hong Kong to work. They were married since 2004 and have two children.

"She found out nga ang iyaha diay’ng husband naa pud lain dinhi. Ni-exert gyud siya’g effort nga maka-istorya ang iyahang husband and then laing babaye naman ang mo-reply sa iyaha," Branzuela said.

In 2013, the wife decided to return home but failed to locate her husband. Eventually, her friends who saw her husband with the other woman confirmed her suspicions.

One of her friends even gave birth in the same hospital where the paramour also gave birth to her husband’s child. That was reportedly the third baby.

"Coincidence sad kaayo, nanganak ang iyahang amiga og babaye sa bana in the same hospital. Mao iyaha gi-confront og gi-confirm. Iyahang gitagaan og higayon ang lalaki nga magka-istoryahay sila, di man gyud siya (ang lalaki)," Branzuela said.

"Ang kini pung babaye maoy isog pud kaayo sa tanan, awayon siya (ang asawa)," she added.

Since the paramour would even reportedly stand her ground, the final straw was Monday night.

"Mao nasakpan gabii kay di na siguro niya makaya ba. Uwaw pud sa iyahang part nga iyahang bana, dunay lain nga dug-ol ra sila og purok, in the same barangay," Branzuela said.

The wife told The FREEMAN that her husband’s paramour had lived at her cousin’s house as a laundrywoman.

The husband, on the other hand, said he became "rebellious" when his wife reportedly stopped sending him money and would instead send the same to her mother.

The husband and the lover are facing charges for violating Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children.

Just last weekend, a seaman was apprehended together with his other lover at a motel also in Lapu-Lapu City. The man’s wife caught the two redhanded at the motel. (FREEMAN)
