Timeless vintage

CEBU, Philippines - Rustic furnishings and turn-of-the-century art deco accents were nowhere to be seen in this year's "Gear and Glam" fashion and classic car show. And yet the occasion's thematic focus remained to be the timeless appeal of vintage styles.

Drawing fashionistas and gearheads to the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside City, the event had the creations of the members of the Fashion Council of Cebu share the limelight with classic cars owned by the members of Performance and Classics.

Dubbed "Gear and Glam VIII: Tour de Cebu," the show presented fineries creations by top Cebu designers - who skillfully merged the avant-garde with traditional style conventions.

It was quite a creatively wide-ranging show - from a creative infusion of a stole as a part of an eveningwear piece to a contemporary treatment of the pantsuit (the 90s favorite that turned heads in various Fall 2016 runway shows). The vintage cars presented in the show may have roared as cars are apt to do - but they were not the "loudest" head-turners in this year's "Gear and Glam". (FREEMAN)
