TEAM to implement new traffic scheme

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The riding public is advised on possible traffic congestion starting today near the Public Utility Vehicle terminal in Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City, after the City Council authorized the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue  to conduct a 60-day dry run for a new traffic scheme.

City Councilor Elstone Dabon, chairman of the committee on transportation, said the new traffic scheme will mainly affect PUVs, which will accommodate the public going to and from the Pacific Mall, where the terminal is located.

Dabon said the traffic group will come up with a recommendation after the dry run, which will take effect next month.

Dabon explained that the proposed scheme is a way for them to get rid of illegal terminals in the city.

Under the resolution, all PUVs from Cebu City plying the Jones-Ibabao and Manalili-Ibabao routes heading to S.B. Cabahug Street should turn right to Pacific Mall and exit by turning right at UN Avenue to its destination.

PUJs bound for MEPZ1-Soong and Punta Engaño will pass to A.C. Cortes Street and turn left to S.B. Cabahug Street, right turn to Pacific Mall, the exit by turning right to UN Avenue then to its destination.

The PUJs from the north passing U.N. Avenue must make a right turn to Pacific Mall terminal to unload passengers and exit by turning right at U.N. Avenue to its destination, while PUJs bound for MEPZ1-Soong and Punta Engaño passing D.M. Cortes street will turn right at A.C. Cortes Avenue, then to the Mandaue-Mactan bridge, straight to its destination. (FREEMAN)
