2 shot dead in separate incidents

CEBU, Philippines - Two persons were shot dead by unidentified assailants in separate incidents in Cebu City yesterday.

Around 6 a.m., a carpenter was shot dead by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle at a construction site in Barangay Duljo-Fatima. Police identified the victim as Edgardo Altobar, 19, of Barangay Tisa.

According to the responding team led by Police Officer 3 Renato Noval, the victim was already lying on the ground unresponsive when they arrived. He had been shot in the head with the slug entering through the left temple and exiting from the right temple.

A friend of the victim said Altobar left him supposedly to get a t-shirt, but moments later, he heard a gunshot. When he went to look outside he saw the victim lying on the ground with a bloodied head.

Personnel from Cebu City Emergency Medical Services arrived and declared the victim dead.

Police recovered a spent 9mm cal. shell from the crime scene. They have no motive behind the killing yet considering that the victim has no criminal record.

In Barangay Punta Princesa, Mirasol Suana Tancay, 35, of Sitio Bakay, Minglanilla town, was shot dead also by unidentified men onboard a motorcycle.

Police Officer 3 Winston Ybañez, investigator of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, said the victim was visiting someone in Cebu City when she was shot.

She was waiting along a road when the assailant approached her and shot her twice in the head.

Police recovered two spent .45 cal. shells from the crime scene. Ybañez said they are initially looking at personal grudge as the motive behind the killing. (FREEMAN)
