To also account colorum trikes Lapu-Lapu City government to replace old tricycle plates

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City Government is planning to replace the plate numbers of city-registered tricycles as these are already old, said Mayor Paz Radaza.

About 4,000 tricycles are registered in the city.

“We will be changing the plate numbers of the franchised tricycle. Sobra naman ka-daan. Ang sa jeep, sa LTFRB (Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board) na,” Radaza said.

She said this is also another way of determining the number of colorum tricycles operating within the city.

In coordination with enforcers from the City Traffic Management Systems, efforts of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office against colorum vehicles that include non-registered tricycles are continuous.

Traffic personnel issue citation tickets to violating tricycle drivers while the police are responsible in apprehending them, according to Radaza.

She said the city administrator has instructed the barangays to come up with a report as to how many tricycles, trisikads and habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) are found within their respective areas.

“They have to make a report kung pila ang habal-habal, pila ang traysikad, pila ang traysikol in their barangays. I-identify na nila kung dunay license or dunay franchise,” the mayor said.

Last month, Radaza called for a wide apprehension of colorum vehicles, believing that this will lessen the traffic congestion in the city.

In a recent public safety summit, the mayor said that about 90,000 vehicles pass to and from the city, which she promised to work on to reduce such number.  (FREEMAN)
