The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A motorcycle driver was killed after he was hit by a six-wheel prime mover while maneuvering the national highway in Barangay Central Poblacion, City of Naga, southern Cebu yesterday dawn.

Rescuers were still able to rush Anatallo Obaner, 26, a resident of Barangay Mainit of the same city, to the hospital, but he expired a few hours later because of the injuries he sustained.

Police investigation revealed that Obaner was then driving a motorcycle (1030TY) and trying to cross to the other side of the road but did not notice the approaching truck (GXM114)  driven by Albert Jayno, 22, a native of Barangay Can-abuc, Bais City in Negros Oriental who currently works for GO5 Transporter Services Corp. based in Barangay Balud, San Fernando, Cebu.

Because of the impact, Obaner was thrown a few feet away and suffered head injuries. He was rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital where he died later.

Police have detained Jayno, pending the filing of charges of homicide and damage to property against him.

Speeding bicycle

In Bogo City, a 49-year-old woman also died when she got slammed on the pavement by a speeding bicycle on Thursday evening in Barangay Odlot.

The victim was identified as Nora Vargas, a resident of the same barangay.

Initial investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Alexander Ancao Jr. revealed that Vargas and her daughter were walking down the road at around 6:30 p.m. when the victim was hit by the speeding bicycle driven by John Mark Seneca, 18, also a resident of the same place.

Ancao said the victim fell on the road and sustained severe head injuries because of the contact.

Vargas was rushed to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City but she was later declared dead by the attending physician.
