Bank guard shoots depositor dead

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Tension erupted at the vicinity of a bank when its security guard shot a bank depositor yesterday afternoon in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Forty-seven-year-old Edwin Tancio Sr., a liaison officer of a private company, died after sustaining gunshot wounds to his stomach and right leg.

Initial investigation conducted by SPO1 Allen Carado of Mandaue Police Station 2 showed that the victim and the suspect, BDO bank security guard Jomar Layco, 29, had a heated argument at the bank's parking area past 12 p.m. yesterday.

Carado said that Layco, an employee of Elusia Security Agency, told Tancio not to park at the back of the bank but the latter did not heed.

Tancio was getting out of the building after his transaction inside the bank when Layco reportedly shot him twice using a shotgun.

The suspect left his shotgun then fled after shooting Tancio.

Tancio, a resident of Barangay Tingub, was brought to UCMed Hospital. He died past 1 p.m.

Police are now conducting follow-up operations to arrest the suspect. —/NSA (FREEMAN)
