Barok’s mother files complaint with CHR

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The mother of Alvaro Alvaro alyas Barok has filed a formal complaint before the Commission on Human Rights in relation to the death of her other son, Medz Alvaro, in a buy-bust operation in Danao City the other week.

Emma Alvaro personally met with CHR-7 Chief Investigator Leo Villarino to ask for justice over the death of Medz.

Emma said she cannot accept the death of her son.

“Dili makatawhanon ang gihimo sa kapulisan sa Danao sa akong anak, kinsa napatay sa mga polis atol sa gipahigayon nilang operation, diin nihangyo ko nga mosulod sa balay apan wala ko gipasulod,” she said.

Emma denied the allegation that Medz is involved in selling drugs.

“Dili na mamaligya ug drugas akong anak, mosuyop hinoon na siya, pero gihangyo naman siya ni Barok nga moundang na sa bisyo ug motabang nalang nako maninda,” she said.

She described the strafing incident at the Danao City Police Station only as a drama by the police.

She also denied threatening a police officer during an incident, saying she only screamed for justice from afar.

Emma said they received many threats and that she is worried about her family, especially about Barok who is detained at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

Villarino said they are now starting their investigation.

Villarino said they are dealing with so many cases but the problem is that witnesses are afraid to come forward.

He said Danao City police need to give their investigation report to the CHR-7 office regarding the shooting that killed Medz.

“This was already the standard practice nato karon every incident nga alleged drug related incidence. Ato na jud ni gi-require atong mga police nga mosubmit sila,” Villarino said.

Villarino said he was thankful to the Alvaro family for their trust in the CHR.

“Nagpasalamat ta, finally aduna’y pamilya ni alias Barok nga nitumaw sa atong opisina, nihatag sa ilang pagsalig,” Villarino said.

Villarino said the number of people going to their office to complain has increased nowadays.

Medz was killed during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Danao City police early morning of August 12 alongside Ronnie “Moning” Castro.

Villarino said as of August 12, they are monitoring 132 cases on drug-related and vigilante-style killings all over the Central Visayas

Capitol order

Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III has ordered to put Alvaro back in the isolation cell inside the CPDRC.

This after a phone SIM card was found beneath his pillow inside his cell which he allegedly used to stay in touch with his family.

Alvaro has been detained inside the isolation cell in June but was transferred due to his health concerns.

Davide did not say how long Alvaro will stay inside the isolation cell. (FREEMAN)
