73 houses demolished in Brgy Subangdaku
CEBU, Philippines - At least 73 houses illegally constructed along the creek in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City have been demolished by the city’s anti-squatting team yesterday morning.
Lawyer James Allan Sayson said the area is considered “danger zone” and should be cleared to avoid endangering the lives of the residents. Sayson said there was no resistance from the affected residents since they were informed about the impending demolition since June 21.
Sayson said the illegal structures impede the normal flow of water in the creek, thereby causing floods in the city.
The affected families were relocated to the 6.5-hectare city-owned relocation site in Barangay Paknaan.
The city government is also doing the assessment to determine whether the families are entitled to financial assistance. (FREEMAN)
