Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Policemen in Central Visayas will continue to get cash reward for every drug personality killed during legitimate operations.

Police Regional Office-7 director Chief Superintendent Noli Taliño made the announcement after some private individuals and even politicians donated cash to continue giving rewards to policemen.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña started giving cash reward but stopped as a sign of protest following the relief of city police director Senior Superintendent Benjamin Santos without consulting him.

Taliño said that they have accumulated a total of P300,000 donation as of last week.

"Ito ay ibibigay sa units na may accomplishments especially if may mapatay in a legitimate drug operation," Taliño said, adding that the cash reward will be given to police officers only.

Taliño, however, said they have yet to agree on the amount of the reward.

Taliño said the PRO-7 welcomes whatever donation coming from private individuals.

He said the donors did not mention whether they were the same people who donated to Osmeña.

"Walang nabanggit," Taliño said, adding the money was donated to support the police campaign against illegal drugs.

"May ini-expect na magbibigay pa," he said.

Osmeña has given a total of P725,000 to the police before he stopped the reward. (FREEMAN)
