Radaza to parents: Do your part on implementation of curfew

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza is reminding parents of their role in making sure that their children would not to stay on the streets beyond the city's 10 p.m. curfew.

She said this reminder should start from the homes.

"Mas maayo man gud nga ang pagpahimangno sa atong mga kabataan magsugod sa atong mga panimalay ug mapahimangno pa gyud sa atong eskwelahan," Radaza said.

The city's curfew ordinance has been implemented in the city's barangays, as well as in the schools so that minors will be safe and away from danger.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office started their rescue operations last month for minors loitering around the streets past 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day.

Rescued minors are turned over to barangay halls or the barangay council for the protection of children.

"Dili lang para sa ilang kaluwasan, but also to prevent them from being involved in illegal activities. We should work together on this," she said.

Radaza added that keeping the children away from danger is a "collective responsibility" and parents should discuss the curfew enforcement during their school meetings with school officials.

"...tabangi kami sa siyudad sa pagpahimangno sa atong mga kabataan. In one of your future meetings, please include in your agenda the enforcement of curfew," Radaza said.

In a recent report, Lapu-Lapu City Schools Division Superintendent Marilyn Andales said teachers are instructed to always remind their students to go straight home and avoid late-night getaway with friends.

With the city's curfew, Andales said they can adjust the dismissal of night high school students to 8:30 p.m. instead of  9  p.m.

Andales said she is coordinating with LCPO and personnel from City Traffic Management Systems to guide night high school students as they head home. (FREEMAN)
