CEBU, Philippines - Police officers assigned in the cities of Talisay, Naga and Carcar and the towns of Minglanilla and San Fernando underwent a surprise drug test yesterday conducted by the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory.

In Talisay City, 66 out of 67 PNP personnel underwent the drug test.

Police chief Germano Mallari said a policeman was not able to undergo the test because he filed a leave of absence for five days.

In Minglanilla, 39 out of 48 cops underwent the drug test.

Minglanilla police chief Rudolf Oriol said that eight of them were training or were assigned to another unit while the other one was hospitalized.

In the City of Naga, only 60 out of 63 were able to take the drug test since the three were off duty, said Naga Chief of Police Superintendent John Clark.

He said though that the three cops were fetched by his other personnel so they can undergo the drug test.

In San Fernando, one of 28 cops was not able to undergo the drug test because she was on medication for her kidneys, said Chief of Police Superintendent Richard Gadingan.

On the other hand, all 52 personnel of the Carcar City Police Office underwent the test.

Carcar City Police Chief Superintendent Alvin Balio said the results will be announced by the PNP Criminal Laboratory within the next 24 hours.   (FREEMAN)
