Tanod honorarium pushed in Mandaue

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  The president of the Association of Barangay Councils in Mandaue City is pushing for the giving of honorarium to all barangay tanods in the city.

Subangdaku Barangay Captain Ernie Manatad, who sits as ex-officio member of the City Council, has proposed the appropriation of P12.960 million as financial assistance to all 540 barangay tanods in 27 barangays of Mandaue City.

Manatad said the amount will be divided equally among the 27 barangays. He believes that giving honorarium to the barangay tanods will help them become more effective in the maintenance of peace and order in their respective barangay.

The barangay tanods would also serve as traffic aide to augment the city's traffic personnel.

"The amount of P12.960-million is appropriated from any available funds in the city treasury as 2016 financial assistance to the 27 barangays of Mandaue City for the maintenance of barangay peace and security and traffic aide augmentation force to the city," reads Manatad's draft ordinance.

The ordinance, however, had to be re-filed in the forthcoming 14th Sangguniang Panlungsod. Mana-tad will still represent the barangays in the City Council until a new ABC president is elected after the barangay elections in October.  (FREEMAN)
