City Health warns public vs rainy season diseases
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Health department has warned the public of water-borne diseases now that the rainy season is here.
Colds and cough are among the common diseases during rainy season which can be transmitted from one person to another. People, especially children, are advised to take vitamins to boost their immune system.
Dr. Alma Corpin, chief of the field programs division of Cebu City Health, said dengue is one of the monitored diseases.
Cebu City has already started a cleanup operation last Saturday in dengue-prone areas to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. Larvicide operations or putting insecticide in possible breeding areas like stagnant waters were also conducted.
Corpin has advised the public to use mosquito nets to avoid being bitten by dengue-carrier mosquitoes.
"Ato lang gyud limpyuhan atong mga kabalayan ug palibot para malikayan nato nga magbalay dinha ang mga lamok," Corpin said.
Another disease that is being monitored is the leptospirosis because of floodwater. Health officials have advised parents to keep their children away from floodwaters. — (FREEMAN)
