What to do on Election Day

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - With just three days away from Election Day, the electorate, especially first time voters, are reminded not only to be responsible in whom to vote, but also on what to do during the elections.

On May 9, Monday, voters are reminded to line up early at the holding area of the precincts where paper sheets will be posted on walls and names and the corresponding precinct numbers will be found.

Voters can also check before Election Day their voting precincts in the official Comelec website, www.comelec.gov.ph.

After which, voters can approach the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) for their ballot, secrecy folder and marker and one can proceed in casting their votes.

While in the voting area, voters are reminded not to take pictures of their filled-out ballots and not to talk to others who are also casting their votes, especially if the intention is to gamble over whose candidate would win, as it is considered as an election offense.

When done voting, ballots should be inserted into the Vote Counting Machine (VCM) and, after which, voters should approach the BEI for the receipt. Voters are urged to review their receipt and place it after in the specified box for the receipts.

The secrecy folder and the marker should be returned to the BEIs, who in turn will put indelible ink on the voter's finger. — (FREEMAN)
