CEBU, Philippines - A 27-year-old man was shot dead by motorcycle-riding persons past 10 a.m. Saturday in Barangay Maghaway, Talisay City.

June Dela Cerna, 27, was rushed to the Talisay City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police investigation revealed that the victim was just standing near the covered court when men on board a motorcycle arrived.

The motorcycle stopped near the victim and the backrider shot him several times hitting him in the different parts of the body.

After the victim fell, the gunmen sped away. A concerned citizen called the barangay officials for help.

Maghaway Barangay Captain Victor Cabatas called the police station and asked for police assistance.

The police responders rushed the victim to the hospital, but Dela Cerna did not make it alive.

Investigators recovered seven spent casings and two slugs of caliber .45 pistol bullets from the crime scene.

The live-in partner of Dela Cerna told investigators that before he was killed, he fought with someone in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City after he was accused of stealing a cellular phone.

The person whom Dela Cerna fought with allegedly threatened to kill him saying "bantay ka kay ipapatay tika."

Police are now identifying the person who threatened the victim and the possibility if he was involved in the shooting. — (FREEMAN)
